Wild Rose Ranch is located on property which was originally owned by John Burlingham—whose family is thought to be the first of European descent to settle near Dubois.

Foster Scott and his wife, Marie, purchased the property and built the main log home in 1938 and named the property the MJ Ranch. Foster Scott was born in 1888, in Greenleaf Kansas and moved to Wyoming at a young age. (Dubois Area History, Mary Allison). He was an early day cattleman in the Basin, WY and Dubois areas. He was the foreman for the American Cattle Company in 1916. He was also a well-known Dude rancher and operated the Diamond G Guest Ranch for many years. He was a member of the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission and served as a Fremont County Commissioner.

In 1959, Scott sold the ranch to Leon and Louise Cook, who operated the ranch for several years. The Cooks sold the property to Retlaw Enterprises, in 1967. Retlaw is Walter spelled backward. It was a privately held company owned by the heirs of Walt Disney. Sharon Disney Lund spent part summers at the ranch and remodeled and refurbished the large log home. She also added a west wing which housed a large master bedroom, dressing room, and master bath.

In 1979, the ranch was sold to Emery Tomlinson and he kept the main log house, adding on a large game room and a three-car detached garage.

Each of the property’s owners has maintained and contributed to the home and property, caring for the land and the buildings.
